We all use Whatsapp to enjoy one-on-one conversation and join Whatsapp groups to stay updated about the latest trends, fitness, sports etc. While that is useful most of the time, sometimes, it leads to notification overload.
It often becomes the cause of annoyance and disturbance, when someone starts over-thinking about you or some members of the group become very active. Now, you should get ready to be bombarded with notifications on a constant basis.
In this situation, Whatsapp mute option may come in handy. Follow the few steps below to get rid of the Whatsapp intrusion from your life.

What happens when you mute someone on Whatsapp
Muting someone on Whatsapp doesn’t mean you block the contact or leave a particular group. It simply means, when they send you new messages, you’ll not receive any alerts or notifications (for some extent).
Open Whatsapp and go to the conversation whom you want to mute. It doesn’t matter if it is a group chat or one-on-one conversation. Tap on the person’s name at the top.
On the following page, you’ll find ‘Mute notifications‘ option under Media tab. Tap on the toggle to turn on mute.
At this point, a pop-up message displays the options to mute notifications for 8 hours, 1 week or a whole year. Select a timestamp and click ok to block notifications for the selected period. Here, if you select ‘Show notifications’, Whatsapp will only block sound and vibration, but will allow showing notifications when a new message arrives.
Tip: Whatsapp custom notification per contact
Other than mute, you can also set a unique notification for a particular contact or group so that you can differentiate it from other notifications. In that case, click on ‘Custom notifications’ ➯ check the box for ‘Use custom notifications’. Then you can assign customize message notifications as well as call notifications for your favorite contacts.
